How to Play the World Flags Quiz

All 195 country flags in one shuffled deck — the 193 UN member states plus Vatican City and Palestine. Each flag starts behind 9 tiles; you get 3 guesses and every miss uncovers 3 more tiles. The deck never repeats a flag until you have seen them all.

    1. Look at the flag. Three of the nine tiles start open.
    2. Guess the country. Every miss opens three more tiles and gives a hint: the continent, the main colours, then the first letter.
    3. Keep your run going. Solve it within three tries and move on to the next flag. Your best run is saved on this device.

    Tips for the World Flags

    • Sort the flag before you name it: stripes, a cross, a canton in the corner, or a single emblem on a plain field. Each layout covers only a few dozen countries.
    • Use the hint chips. After a miss you learn whether your guess was on the right continent and how many colours it shares with the answer.
    • Watch the shape. Most flags are 2:3 or 1:2, but Switzerland and Vatican City are square, Nepal is not a rectangle and Qatar is unusually long.
    • When two flags look the same, guess the bigger country first; the extra tiles you earn often show the detail that separates them.

Will the same flag come up twice?

Not until you have played through the whole deck. The quiz deals every flag once, then reshuffles.

It uses the same pool and rules. The difference is that you can keep going and build a run of correct answers.
