How to Play the Africa Flags Quiz
Africa has 54 countries, more than any other continent, and many of their flags share the Pan-African colours. That makes this the toughest regional flag quiz — and the most satisfying one to finish.
- Look at the flag. Three of the nine tiles start open.
- Guess the country. Every miss opens three more tiles and gives a hint: the continent, the main colours, then the first letter.
- Keep your run going. Solve it within three tries and move on to the next flag. Your best run is saved on this device.
Tips for the Africa Flags
- Green, yellow and red come from the flag of Ethiopia, a symbol of independence across Africa. Ethiopia is horizontal with a blue emblem; Ghana adds a black star; Senegal and Cameroon are vertical with a green or yellow star; Mali is vertical with no emblem.
- Guinea is the reverse of Mali: red, yellow, green from the hoist instead of green, yellow, red.
- Black, red and green with white edges is Kenya (with a Maasai shield). Malawi is black, red and green with a red rising sun.
- Chad’s blue, yellow and red is almost identical to Romania’s. Only the shade of blue differs.
- Unique symbols are a gift: an AK-47 for Mozambique, a crowned crane for Uganda, the Zimbabwe Bird for Zimbabwe and a green pentagram on red for Morocco.
- Niger is orange, white and green with an orange disc — not India, which has a blue wheel and longer proportions.
